Written and spoken words can change the way you look at things. The following 10 quotes have all helped shape my life in some way or another. One quote is pinned to my wall above my work-desk (quote 7), another I think of every time something bad but minor happens (quote 9), and one even made me cry (yes, I sobbed like a little baby at the end of *this film* – quote 6).
The most relevant life-changing quotes are those which relate directly to you. These are the quotes that have changed my life, but I am very much interested in finding out the top 10 quotes which have changed YOUR life. Comment below and enjoy the images.
Profile:(From WM Chief Editor Alvin Carpio) I met Shane at the Tower Hamlets Summer University. He ran a class entitled “Urban Poetry Performance” which I was glad to participate in. Not only did he teach young people how to write poetry and deliver a powerful performance on stage, he also made them think critically about current affairs and controversial issues in a brutally honest but constructive way.
He did so by doing the “Yes,” “No” or “Undecided” exercise where one person makes a statement (e.g. homosexuals are evil) and each person walks to one side of the room (each side stands for either “Yes,” “No” or “Undecided” as a response). Next, the person who made the statement then picks one person from each side of the room who then states their case and argues for what they believe in. This game resulted in heated debate with some enlightening points which made everyone question their beliefs. I came out of the exercise feeling refreshed and hungry for more knowledge and I realised once again that simple exercises and events in life can have a big impact on the way I see things. I say, if you want an interesting evening, give it a go! It beats Twister all day long.
Once trained and ready to perform, Shane invited the best of his students to get on stage and perform in front of a hundred people. Luckily I was one of them and I got the opportunity to perform a poem I entitled “She Makes My Sperm Count Go Down.” (More on this on the blog.) Happily for me, the crowd received my performance well and I was later contacted by legendary poet Michael Horrowitz because he wanted to publish my poem in his anthology. I absolutely loved the experience and seeing other young people on stage performing poems they had written only a couple of hours before was truly inspirational.
And it was all down to this man Shane. With the help of Tower Hamlets Council, he made these opportunities possible with his love of poetry and sharing his passion with the future generation. Shane is a poet, comedian, big-time entertainer and also a World-Maker.
Enjoy his interview!

I’m going to name a few, because I believe each is possible within my lifetime;
All people having access to clean water, a nutritious diet, and decent education;
All plastic packaging being made from materials like corn starch, which can be composted;
Clean power from renewable resources replacing fossil fuels as our main power source;
A complete ban on toxic waste products being dumped in the sea;

Saturnino C. Ocampo was already an accomplished reporter and business editor of the Philippines’ biggest and most influential newspaper when in the early 1970’s, he just dropped everything.
Hi everyone! This is the first ever World-Makers.com Blog entry. I am Alvin Carpio, Founder and Chief Executive of World-Makers.com. I started the project in July this year as part of Hackney Young People’s University (HYPU), a summer school in East London. The idea came up during a class I was attending called “HYPU Enterprise.” I had one of those eureka moments!
I have been involved in a number of projects before (more info about these will come soon) and after graduating from university (I did History and Politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London) I spent a lot of my time thinking about the next steps. I wanted to start something which would allow me to follow all my passions at once, something which could pay for itself and something which could inspire others to follow their passions too. That’s when the World-Makers.com idea came up.
In the upcoming months, I will be sharing with you the absolutely fascinating experiences that has been the beginning of World-Makers.com! Only 3 months into it – from initial idea to website with exclusive interviews and absorbing articles from contributors across the globe – I’m committed to making World-Makers.com the hub for everything inspirational on the web.
So here it is. My first blog entry. I’ve decided to share with you my personal library. Books have been highly influential in my life. Strangely my ‘love affair’ with books only started during my A-Levels/6th Form College (5 years ago). I used to hate reading and couldn’t see why people enjoyed reading: I’d rather watch television or buy CDs and listen to the latest hip hop albums. The first ‘adult’ book I read was “The Prince” by Niccolo Machiavelli, and since that book I’ve developed a hunger for more books, more knowledge and more inspiring words and entertainment. I love reading great material from various categories. In the future I hope to show how much a thirst for knowledge and a curiosity for life has inspired me too. All will be revealed in the World-Makers.com Blog.
In the future, I will be uploading my Top Books lists and more stories about specific books too with reviews. The list below can be sorted by category, book title or author. I’ve uploaded this list to show you what books have inspired me so that you too might get the chance to read some great stuff. For now, here it is for you to see: nearly 200 books which make up my personal library catalogue. (To make it clear, the books listed below have been purchased by me, lent to me, bought for me or even found by me. Whatever the case, they each have their own place on my two floor-to-ceiling book shelves.)
By Andrew Jude Rajanathan (London) “Take a good hard look at yourself and find out what you truly enjoy in life, it may take some time, it may take you years, but I guarantee you it will be worth it in the end.” – Theo Paphitis, Dragon’s Den.
Inspiration is a gift that spontaneously comes and goes without reason. Some occasions one can be overwhelmed with creative ideas whilst others are a frustration of little to no drive. It is when we find a constant source of inspiration that fuels our imagination that we really excel. This may be in the form of an individual, a group, a place or sound, but whatever it is it will change the way we think and feel and guide us forward on a positive path.
